This house is beautifully unique, combining the artful details, decorative wood trim, siding, and extra-tall window proportions typical of Queen Anne style with the simple geometric form of Neo-Colonial architecture. This fusion makes the house both impressive and comforting, a likely intention of the architect who designed it in 1895 for a sanitarium in San Luis Obispo, CA. Over the years, I have witnessed this house hosting a diverse range of occupants—from Airbnb guests and wedding parties to artists and sorority pledgers. Although it is often obscured by large trees in its natural setting, I wanted to create this portrait to reveal the house’s true essence, unadorned. It stands as the most inviting home in San Luis Obispo, embodying warmth and charm in its purest form.
