There is nothing I cherish more about Central Coast California than its network of trails, which, despite their abundance, remain relatively uncrowded due to the smaller population. Although California is often associated with drought, the rains that do come can be significant enough to close many of our trails. The challenge of widespread off-trail hiking to avoid puddles necessitates these closures to protect the trails.

I created this piece during one of those times when the trails were closed. Without an image source, I drew upon thousands of miles of memories and imagined how tall and green the grasses would be upon my return. While some might see the dunes of the Central Coast or the beaches of Cape Cod, I see a blend of 18 years of calling these trails my home.
